Deafblind Scotland

A grant of £26,524 over 3 years

This grant supports the Connect 2 Support Project which allows Deafblind Scotland to work with local deaf and blind groups to provide access to guide/communicator interpreters. This service is invaluable in assisting sensory impaired older people transition from the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to the new Personal Independence Payments (PIP) system. Assistance is also offered for enquiries relating to energy suppliers, housing and access, adaptations, blue badges etc. Welfare Officers will arrange home visits to assist the older person with every aspect of their application, from researching the benefits available, to completing necessary forms and attending the medical assessments. Older People who have had claims rejected can also seek assistance. Guide/communicator interpreters accompany the welfare officer for those older people who need more than just British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation.
