Volunteer Now Belfast
A grant of £89,566 over 2 years.
This is a pilot project using “social prescribing” in East Belfast. The project arose from an increase in the number of older people (particularly men) visiting their GP for non-medical reasons. Three GP surgeries are identifying and referring older people to a trained volunteer. Using Volunteer Now’s extensive database of activities and charities working with older people in Belfast they are able to identify services and activities to reintegrate the older person back into their community and thereby reduce social isolation. The older person is able to use the services for as long as they need to and can be accompanied to their first few activities. Volunteer Now also run a befriending and mentoring service for those needing more support.
