Joint Two-year Surgical Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of England
The Dunhill Medical Trust will, once again, support the Royal College of Surgeons in England by co-funding one Surgical Research Fellowship in support of its charitable objectives: understanding the mechanisms of ageing and treating age-related diseases and frailty.
Applicants must be a Fellow or a Member of The Royal College of Surgeons of England* in a training post, or a trainee who has passed the MCQ papers and who will sit the final parts of the MRCS (Eng) examination.
The focus of the research must be aligned to The Dunhill Medical Trust’s remit – understanding the mechanisms of ageing and treating age-related diseases and frailty.
Fellowships will cover salary, on-costs and some running expenses.
Please note: those shortlisted for interview must obtain and provide written permission from their Deanery allowing them to undertake at least two years Out of Programme time, should they be successful in being awarded a fellowship.

Guidance for applicants
The joint RCS/DMT Research Fellowship will be expected to be up to £128,000 over the two years in total based on FTE salary costs. The award will be expected to cover:
- an individual’s salary (at the appropriate grade on the relevant pay scale), plus on-costs,
- an additional amount not exceeding £3,000 p.a. to cover consumables
- an additional amount not exceeding £500 p.a. to cover travel to present their work
The duration of the Fellowship will be two years.
