Funding opportunities under EPSRC’s Healthcare Technologies theme

There are a number of funding opportunities from the EPSRC, which may be of interest:

  • Transforming prediction and early diagnosis in the community: Apply for funding to develop novel tools and technologies for patient-specific prediction, early and accurate diagnosis of physical and mental health conditions for use in the community. Projects should engage relevant partners to ensure the research is co-created and co-delivered. Projects should also contribute to tackling health inequalities and embed equitable, diverse, and inclusive patient and public involvement and engagement. The full economic cost (FEC) of the project can be up to £2.5 million. EPSRC will fund 80% of the FEC (up to £2 million) and projects can be up to 36 months. The deadline for the expression of interest stage is 2nd May 2024. For more information, click here.
  • Technologies to enable independence for people living with dementia: This pre-announcement is for funding to develop a ‘Network Plus’ focused on the development and use of novel tools and technologies to enable people to live independently with dementia, including their carers. The EPSRC/NIHR are looking to build capacity and bring together new communities across engineering and physical sciences and health and care, to tackle challenges in dementia research. Networks should embed people with lived experiences of dementia and you must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for EPSRC funding. The full economic cost (FEC) of the network can be up to £2 million and the EPSRC/NIHR will fund 80% of the FEC. The network can last up to 36 months and the funding opportunity opens on 16th May 2024. For more information, click here.
  • Health Technologies Connectivity Awards: This pre-announcement is for funding to spend time in a different research or user environment to build new connections within health technologies. Novel Engineering and Physical Sciences research contributing to the delivery of EPSRC’s Health Technologies Strategy must comprise a proportion of the placement. Applicants must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for EPSRC funding. In this pilot scheme, researchers will develop new skills and collaborations to progress their research in health technologies. The full economic cost (FEC) of the placement can be up to £500,000 and the EPSRC will fund 80% of the FEC. The duration of this award is up to 36 months and the opportunity opens in May 2024.
